Here I am without sunglasses. What’s that!? You didn’t know I had a face under there? TA-DA!

We finally got a little bit of snow this year, and it was awesome. Just enough to make everything pretty, but not really icy and awful – and the temperatures are warming up now, so I’m hoping for a great weekend filled with sunshine. I tried to wear some bright colors and go prance around in the snow – all in the name of style blogging you know. It was freezing out there, and I definitely did more shivering and standing there like an idiot than the prancing I had hoped to do…. usually how outfit pictures go for me, anyway.

Today, here, in South Carolina, we are anxiously awaiting a snow day. For those of you who get snow all the time, this will clearly seem less exciting…. but for us southerners, it is quite a treat. Even if there’s only a chance, and we may end up with no snow, or only seeing a few flurries, I still love the possibility. Just thinking about snow turns me into a kid again. Everything is magical in the snow. Your house becomes the inside of a giant snow globe, and the world looks fresh and white, and serene. It’s a special time to enjoy- getting your bum frozen and drinking hot tea with your family…. building a snow-man, or (my personal favorite childhood snow activity), being pulled through the snow on a sled that’s tied to a four-wheeler. Yes, that’s snow in the south.

I love getting dressed up. Making up my eyes, lips, hair, and finding the perfect little outfit – down to every accessory. It’s something that I’ve always enjoyed – I think a lot of girls can relate. Sometimes, taking off my makeup at night is even kind of sad for me. Can’t we just leave that on and wake up with a fresh face that looks just the same?

I was expressing this to my husband the other day, after I had taken off all the makeup, all the jewelry, taken out my contacts, and put on my glasses; and he just responded with, “You’re beautiful”. This (and about a million other reasons) is why I love my husband. He is able to make me feel like a super-model, just like that. When my hair is getting greasy and doing crazy things, and my complexion is less than perfect, or I have bruises on my legs from being a klutz…. when I’m not wearing the 5-inch heels that make me feel tall and sexy – he’s there to remind me that I don’t need all of those things to be the good, loving, and supportive wife that he needs. And, that is an amazing feeling.

I’ve been reading C.S. Lewis lately, and most recently, finished the book Mere Christianity. C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite writers (isn’t he everyone’s?). I know. I’m one of those people who folds down the corner of the pages of a book where something strikes a chord with me. (Don’t tell my husband – this ruins the book, you know). But, this book, I’m telling you, I could literally fold the corner of every page. It’s like every sentence makes me view something in a different light, or think on an idea in a new way. Mere Christianity is nothing new, the transcripts were written in the 1940’s, and it is certainly a classic. But if you haven’t read it yet, I’d highly encourage you to.

“Progress means getting nearer to the place you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you nearer. If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case, the man who turns back the soonest is the most progressive man.” -C.S. Lewis

Over the past six months or so, I’ve been in the process of cleaning up my beauty routine. Meaning replacing my current, toxic makeup and beauty products with healthier versions that are better for your skin and body. This has proved to be quite the endeavor, and honestly more difficult, and time consuming, than I ever imagined. But I’ve slowly developed new habits and incorporated new products that I do love. One of those being this Tarte lipstick I’m wearing. As a makeup lover, spending several months just wearing Burt’s Bees on your lips will really make you appreciate a nice, rich color. :) Hey red lip, glad to have you in my life again.
